Honey's Cubs Update

Appears Honey's three cubs are now on their own and surviving. Last I had heard had moved south near Mara Serena. Sounds like latest report have moved to the east near Rekero and Mara Intrepids:

Also, never have seen official confirmation that Kenya Wildlife Service vet caused death of Honey.

I guess the politics must be a bit thick there.

Thank you Kevin. Even if it is not publicly acknowledged, I hope some lessons were learned to prevent repeats.

Following is link to Governor's Camp June Report where they report cubs doing well but still located in the north near Kichwe Tembo.

At rate good news so far.

I saw three young cheetah brothers not far from Intrepids several times, but was told by my guide that their mother was NOT dead.

Aren't there three brother cheetahs somewhere in Southern Africa called the "Three Brothers" that are a killing machine because if they all go after a prey at least one is likely to catch it?

I guess we all have to go to the Mara again to check this out.

Hi Kevin,

The most famous Three brother Co-alition has been two for almost two years now....."Savuti boys" that have a HUGE home range in Botswana from the Savuti Channel thru the Selinda concession to Kwando up north. The third of the boys died of snake bite in 2005. National Geographic recently completed filming a documentary on the boys and should be on air at some point. Can't wait!!!

The other Three co-aliton team is in Kwando's Kwara concession.

I hope there are more tag teams around in Southern Africa.

Rgds,
Hari

I just rec'd an email from our guide at Kicha Tembo with an update on Honey's cubs-

"they crossed the Mara river on Serena side and went to the Narok county council side. We get reports that they are doing fine and they have grown big and are good hunters."

I just saw pictures of them also on Sandi's post, she saw them in June all the way over by Intrepids by the looks of it.

It probably was Honey’s cubs that I saw in early July. Even though my guide said they were NOT. They looked like good hunters, but useless in keeping the hyenas in their place. ONE hyena stole their kill. Their bellied at least had got a little bit rounded before the theft.
