Grand Hyatt Hotel

The local gossip is that the Grand Hyatt owner (a Saudi man) has decided that the Grand Hyatt Hotel will no longer serve alcohol. I've heard they poured out every liter they had in stock and at this time they are not serving any.

I don't know if this effects the Hard Rock Cafe downstairs in the Hyatt or not.

Many tourists may not mind this, but I thought if you are looking to choose a 5* hotel, it might make a difference that you would want to know about.

Happy travels.

Newest gossip is that the HRC is dry now and the Egyptian government authority that gives star ratings to hotels took 2 stars away from the Grand Hyatt.

Stay tuned for more information (*gossip)

*I guess it will remain gossip until I or someone goes down to actually check it out or someone finds a newspaper article about it.

Was in the Egytian Daily Star (or whatever it's called now.) The sentence structure was not the best, so I'm not sure it said that "reportedly" the hotel was now dry and the owner had poured out a lot of liquor or that the hotel was now dry and the owner, reportedly had poured out a lot of liquor. It also said that he was a very conservative and religious Moslem. The article wondered whether it would lose its government bestowed stars. This was a week or so.

I really liked to go to the outside deck on the edge of the Nile there and have a meal and a gin and tonic. I

I understand the Moslem prohibition
against alcohol, but I don't really understand why a man with those beliefs would buy a 5 star hotel that served alcohol. Why not buy one that doesn't already serve alcohol or some other business?

Because it's the religion of peace and tolerance, that's why. Thank you for the travel information.

I have no problem with Islam, I live in Egypt with many Moslem friends.

But I don't get your connection between Islam being a religion of peace and tolerance and buying this hotel in 2003 and banning alcohol in 2008.

I'm pretty sure it was meant to be sarcastic. Oh well.
