Good Budget Tour Tanzania?
Looking for recommendations on a good budget tour for the Northern circuit in Tanzania. We are looking to spend between $100-$150 per person per day. Expecting cold showers and uncomfortable accomodations but going to Africa to see the landscape and animals and just don't have the funds to stay luxury. Thanks in advance to any help from fellow backpackers who have made the trip.

Have you tried Sunny or Basecamp yet?
Basecamp lists the cost of their camping safaris here http://www.basecamptanzania.com/safaris.htm

I haven't but check the Tripadvisor Tanzania forum. Someone there just returned from a safari with Basecamp and posted a positive review. There have also been past reviews on that site and some on the Lonely Planet Thorntree forum, I believe. I don't recall ever reading anything negative about them. Good luck!

Yea I am doing forums up the wazoo so thought I would reinforce anything I find elsewhere with the qeustion out on here.
In that case, might as well throw out there that I have also been looking at Good Earth Tours and Sardius which I have seen mixed reviews on. Mostly I am looking for advice from those who have done the lower end tours and not the ones in nice lodges.

Yeah G.A.P. is still a little out of budget for me which is too bad because they seem like a great company. I really think I can't go over $800 for the whole safri (albeit a short one). I still want to hear from someone who has done a camping, budget safari. Most people have more money than me and get to stay in lodges....

hello
we have just return from a safari with Basecamp,I have done a couple of report on tripadvisor "a great safari with basecamp"and "thankyou"
We stayed in lodges instead of camping ,however while we were in the begining stages of organizing this trip i asked 3 companys that we had received quotes from, for references from previous customers,Basecamp gave us a few contacts and 3 of them had done camping safaris one lady gave me a link to her trip report on the lonely planet forum
http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntre...sageID=9763031
she also had some great photographs of the campsites on webshot.com but i can not find that link at present,
We as a family would highly recommend Basecamp for a safari our was great ,this was our second safari in Tanzania and would return tommorrow
hope this helps

We had a great trip with basecamptanzania. Achmed is great and always replies very quickly. We took the camping safari and would go there again immediately. I was travelling with my 13 yrs old son last year in the second half of august in the northern circuit. We add one more day in Serengeti to the 8 days camping safari. I have also posted here my trip report in september. You have to adapt but we also were not looking for luxury, which is to me a bit far away from my concept if visiting Africa.
