For Women Only: Sports Bras

Leaving for safari in five weeks--am now convinced by the posts here that I need to get a couple of sports bras---I am what is called "full busted" so I don't like most sports bras--can anyone recommend a brand (I have already done a preliminary web search) with enough support for a 38DDD/40DD that doesn't just squash me? Please help!! I will be going to Dick's or REI this weekend or next.

If I read this correctly, it is a 38ddd but a 40dd?

If a 40DD then try going online to Champion. I have purchased the Champion no poke in a 36DD and been happy with it. It is like a regular bra but is breatheable and has a good amount of support -- they have higher support bras but I do not run so I only cared about medium support and like that this is more like my regular bras. It does not come in a DDD though -- only DD. I checked and there is only one they make in a DDD. I bought some recently at the outlet near my home -- if you have a Leggs Hanes Bali outlet, they carry Champion also.

Also you might want to go online to REI and order what they have in your size. They will ship it to the local store for free (or to your home for a shipping charge) That way you can be sure to get your size. Not sure about Dick's but my experience is that it is more difficult to find DD sizes in sports bras at the sporting goods stores.

I would also suggest checking out Lane Bryant. If you have one in your area then you could try before you buy - but they do have an online store also.

Try Enell sports bras. They are pricey but worth it!

thanks for the suggestions!

(mpkp--my dd was a "fitting specialist during college--if you are a DDDcup, but need to go up a band size, you go down a cup size--so many bras fit differently--run big or small in the band and/or cup)

They just had a good article in O about this-the top four were:
Under Armour HeatGear Endure D
Nike Revolutionary Women's Support Bra
Champion Powerback Underwire Sports Bra
Enell Sports Bra
If you go to oprah.com and type in sports bra in the search area you can get the whole article with pictures. I'm going to try the nike one, since I don't like the size of the Enell (but I usually wear v neck shirts). They don't have anything at my local REI anywhere near large enough!
good luck with your hunt!

I have a couple of Enell ones and I LOVE them! they are the only sports bras I've ever had where I feel completely secure and not like I'm suffocating.

thanks all--I ordered two of the champion underwire styles--I still have time to shop if they aren't what I want--and the price was right.

I swear by Moving Comfort sports bras, which don't squish, give a nice shape and are very comfortable and supportive. Last time I looked, REI had them. Pretty sure they come bigger than my 36DD but not positive. You'll be happy with the Champion's too, and they're a bit less expe4nsive.

Go to titlenine dot com (not sure if I can list their wedsite on here). They have the best selection of sports bras and descriptions.
I have ordered from them time after time and LOVE all of their stuff.

I took Champion style 1694 a powerback. I preferred the one with the wire. When you are in the last seat going over log bridges you hardly move. Once you get it on you don't know that you are wearing it. Sometimes needed the back hooked. Gail

check out www.titlenine.com....the best sports bras for larger sizes. More variety than I've found anywhere.

Title nine looks like a great site! what I liked about the Champion site was the rating that told you how well the bra did when running.

I just got the two bras I ordered from Title 9. They will both be going back...I hate that. I tried the 3 reasons bra, and it felt like a straight jacket, and the hallelujah, which was a lot more comfortable, but had seriously pointy boobs. I'm talking 1950's here! It really doesn't look like that in the photo-I wish they would use pictures of larger women! Anyway-just my 2 cents-Kym

I just tried on the bras I got from champion---one was no different from my everyday bra, more or less; and the other--a racerback-- needed two people to get into--I nearly dislocated my shoulder trying to put it on!!

So Thank you for the Title Nine suggestion! I just ordered a couple of styles from them--they also have a good rating system and bras that don't need more than one person to put on!
