epi-pens

Does anyone know if Epi-pens( for bee allergies) are allowed in carry-on...we are hoping to not check any luggage as we have many connections.

Thanks,

M

I have carried 2 epi-pens all over the world in my backpack without any problems. The airport security folks seem to either know what these are, or the pens don't fit the profile of something suspicious. Have a great trip!

Same here - never a problem. I do however, have a docs. note just in case.

I also keep an open script for it and other meds. in the event of loss/theft etc. (it happened) I back it up further with the same info. online, as well.

I have carried mine onflights all over the US and Europe. Once a security officer asked me what it was and accepted my answer.

I asked the same question prior to our trip to Botswana. I carried them in my carry-on and never had a problem.

Hi Molly! Definitely have a note from your doctor stating that the epipens must be in your carry-on luggage not your checked baggage. SAA (South Africa Airlines) at Heathrow did try to confiscate my daughter's epipens in 2006 and told us that they would have to go in her checked luggage. A note from our family doctor, which my daughter keeps in a ziploc bag with the epipens, stating that they have to be on board with her, saved us! However, I should add, that she too has traveled the world with her epipens, and that is the only time she has had any difficulties. Robin

Simply have your doctor note on the prescription "Use as directed for allergic reaction". Ask the pharmacist to include that instruction on the Epipen andthat will take care of bringing it aboard with your carryon. I carry these everywhere and allthough I'm a doctor, I have never been questioned. Heathrow is probably the most restrictive of all airports but even they should accept a properly labeled Rx.

For what it's worth, while I don't usually wear a medicalert bracelet, for my Africa trip I have a medicalert chain around my neck, with the large red symbol, stating what my allergies are and that I carry an epi-pen.
