Laptop sleeves through security

I have an Acer Aspire in a sleeve. There is one pocket across the front, which will be empty. Will I be able to leave the notebook in the sleeve or does it need to come out? Thanks in advance!

I've always been told to remove laptops from sleeves.

I took my netbook with me to Europe this past summer and prior to leaving had read some TSA rule that you could leave your laptop/netbook in a sleeve if there wasn't any hardware (zippers, clips) on it. My sleeve has a pocket across the front, a zipper around it and a snap flap going over the zipper, so I expected to have to remove it.

At some security screenings they told me to leave it inside the sleeve, at others I removed it from the sleeve - though granted, I wasn't instructed to and just did it to move through the line quickly.

It has been my experience that the laptop comes out of the sleeve. I would plan on that, but if you happen to be able to ask a TSA person as you are putting your stuff up, then do whatever they say.

I have taken my Acer mini Aspire to Europe and S E Asia, as well as all over the USA, and it has yet to have to be taken out of its sleeve. But I don't have any pocket across the front. This is just a sleeve. Nothing fancy.

The thing one should realize by now is that when it comes to TSA, there's no consistency. Most of the time, you can get away with it; sometimes you can't. At some airports, a laptop has to be in its own plastic tub with nothing else insides; other times, I can put other stuff in the same plastic tray next to (but not on or under) my netbook.

I'm thinking you're all correct - it depends on the airport, the agent and their state of mind on that particular day and time. Our trip down I didn't need to take it out, now we'll see tomorrow how it goes on the way home. Thanks for your answers.

Ho ho ho, all!!
