Egypt on a cruise
We are thinking of taking a cruise in October that goes to Alexandria for 2 days. What is it like getting to the Pyramids? Is is safe? Someone told me they did not feel safe when they went there and that was before the recent uprising. Has anyone been there recently?
thanks

I haven't been there recently but there's no question I would go now. I've been twice to Egypt, once was from a cruise and the other was a 10 day land trip. When I went from the cruise I booked my tours from the cruise ship and it was fine. If you want to book a private tour with Causal Cairo or another guide that will be OK too.

Plan to spend the night in Cairo so you can actually get to see something of the city and surrounding area. The travel time on the highway will run between 5-6 hours round trip, so that is too much time to waste out of a day trip, in my opinion. There is WAY too much too see in Cairo.

i was on cruise too in April 2010,we had an overnight tour from Alexandria port to Cairo, and it was very nice and safe but as you said it was before the recent uprising but i think it will be safe especially at the pyramids as this area is far from the places where the recent events are taking place like downtown Cairo, our tour was arranged by a nice Egyptian private tour guide ,she had arranged for us the transportation from the port, the hotel in Giza and every thing else, email me if you need her email as i can not post emails here.Good luck.

Did this in the past affordabletours.com Ladyegypt.com these days I would go stay at Mena House Oberai out by the pyramids
and do my tours from there. Monitor consular advisories and
insuremytrip.com still sort of a tinderbox over there.
Feb 01, 2012 · At least 75 people were killed and 1,000 wounded on Wednesday after a soccer pitch invasion in the Egyptian city of Port Said.

I was just there in December. Spent 3 nights in Cairo and 3 on a cruise from Aswan to Luxor. It's completely safe and I would not hesitate going again. The only negative I saw is there are so few tourists so you get hassled a bit more by the vendors. Of course, the upside is there are hardly any tourists at the major sites.
I'll be posting my review up shortly on http://meetoncruise.com. Enjoy if you go!

Isn't it HELPFUL when someone like bookholidayorg comes on a site like this and spams the heck out of it? Makes you want to use their service a lot, doesn't it? NOT!!!! They are being reported - hopefully the spam will soon be removed and they will be removed!

I was in Egypt recently traveling for 10days with a tour company called Abu Tours, Highly recommend. Everywhere was very safe and quiet, although the sellers were a little anxious.. You should be ok if your with a guide. We did a cruise from Aswan-Luxor on Semirimus 3, it was wonderful.
Enjoy your holiday.
