On the grand scheme of things, how important is the Pyramid laser and light show?
How about Nile River cruise? We will be at the Pyramids of Giza during the day anyway.
Since we have limited time, we have to make some choices.
We opted for Alexandria national museum & Catacombs of Kom El Shugaf instead.
Any opinions and suggestion would be apprecaited.

We didn't take a Nile Cruise (and still had a great trip! but I can't compare doing it "with" and "without"). As for the sound & light show -- it's entertainment, nothing more, nothing less. I personally do not like sound & light shows so I wouldn't ever spend my precious time at one, there are a lot of things I'd rather be doing.

Instead of what? The Giza Sound and Light Show?
That doesn't quite make sense as the two places you are going are in Alexandria. The Sound and Light show is in Cairo/Giza. The Alex sites are day time sites. The S&L show is a night time show.
I don't get it.

Thanks everyone, I should be more specific. The schedule we have around Cairo and Alexandria is quite limited we have to make some choices.
One option is to stay over night around Cairo so we can catch the light and laser show, and go on a Nile river boat day cruise the next day. The other option was to proceed to Alexandria and skip the laser and light show and take in the Alexandria National Museum and the Catacombs of Kom El Shugaf instead. We also want to see the Alexandria Library and the Light house if we have time.
So far, from what I could gather, the laser and light show is not as big a deal as I have thought. Since this is our first trip to mid-east, we want to catch as much of the sight as we can, within the little time that we have.
There are so many more places that we like to see so we won't even know when we will be back to Egypt again so we don't want to miss any "MUST" items.

I think Alexandria is the right choice for you, but scratch off the Light House from you list - it burned down centuries ago. Today the Citadel sits on the site where the light house once existed. Go to the library too. You can see paintings of the light house and the fire there.

Thank you Casual_Cairo, I think I will stick to our original plan. I heard the light house was rebuilt so obviously the info I have is wrong.
Is tehre any last minute tips or info that I may need? Other than local currency, would vendors accept Euros or US$?
