12 days. Fly Toronto to London, Dubai and Dar.My daughter will meet me and we'll go somewhere for the night she has picked out in Dar. Early morning flight to Selous to the Rufiji River Camp for 3 days. Then back to Dar for a flight the next morning to Kigoma. This is where she lives. i guess there will be a BBQ with friends that evening. She will take me to one of the refugee camps so I have the opportunity to see her work there and also visit her town with all the locals that she has made friends with. There are also 2 orphanages I am bringing donations to. Jen wants to then take a short trip to the Gombe Stream Park which is a short ferry ride away. We have no bookings but we'll scoop up something on the fly.Back to Dar on my own and hopefully find my way to a hotel and then the airport for the trip back.

Happy travels, Gardyloo (& GardyLouise). Hope Phinda/Chitwa are everything you hope for.
I'm coming to believe that RTWs can be something of a narcotic, like a carousel that's a wonderful ride but that has to spin faster and faster each time.

Narcotic, yes. Faster and faster, not necessarily.
They just happen to be pretty cost-effective ways to go long distances, especially in premium classes. Our current RTWs in business class cost less than a straight round trip from the US to Oz or Africa, plus we get a lot of domestic (N. America) travel thrown in at no additional cost.

Susic; We will be at the Grace 6/1 also and if we happen to meet I'd love to hear about your plans; your itinerary sounds so great and we could probably learn a lot from you. We are first-timers and taking only two weeks to do a bit of "our dream" trip to Africa ..so look for a couple of southerners looking at the full moon (hopefully) trying to get over jet lag.Sam

Hi Kelly,
I'm glad you got your trip worked out. It looks like you went with CCAfrica after all. They are top notch, and you will have a fantastic time! Please post details and photos when you return.

I did, Dana. After getting the quote and really looking at it, I decided to splurge and feel comfortable about it. It will be my birthday present for one of those big birthdays that I am not looking forward to.
Colleen has been very responsive in all my questions. They originally had me in the Serengeti the whole time, but I really wanted to see the Crater at least once. So She got me in there.
One question if you know. They say I have to have all the trip insurance. But I have no plans to cancel and I leave next Friday. So barring a car accident or something huge and crazy I will be there. And if something that big happens, I think what I paid will be the least of my worries. I also have health insurance that covers me out of the country for 60 days and I will only be there 12. They provide the evacuation service. So what am I missing, and why should I pay extra?

Finally, I feel like it's close enough to reply to this. We leave in three months, on September 22. We're spending a night in Amsterdam on the way there (and 2 on the way back), so we arrive in Arusha on September 24. Here's our itinerary:
Tarangire, Tarangire River Camp, 3 nights
Ngorongoro, Serena, 1 night
Serengeti, Serengeti Tented Camp, 3 nights
Zanzibar (I forget the name of the beach place we're staying, but it has a PADI 5-star dive shop on the premises, which was the important thing), 5 nights, with the last night at the Dhow Palace.
We'll be in Tarangire for my husband's birthday.
