Hi Ann
After looking at literally dozens of tour companies, including considering the fantastic advice found in this forum, I chose Sunny Safaris. For me, they were the most responsive in putting together an itinerary that met my needs rather than a push to follow a standard itinerary. They were also mid-range in regard to cost. I found their response to my numerous questions remarkably patient and rapid. I have chosen a private safari and have selected the type of vehicle I want and have ensured they will supply the extras such as beanbags to rest cameras on. If the safari is as good as the pre-trip service, we will have a wonderful time.
Cheers
Peter

Finally...here's the FINAL itinerary for Sandy's (divewop) and Cindy's (sundowner) Africaphile Adventure.
I leave ATL arrive Rwanda 1/16
Do some biz stuff w/ the scientists and a gorilla trek on the 19th.
Sundowner joins me in Rwanda: 1/20
golden monkeys or Dian's grave: 21st.
Gorilla Trekking: 22nd, 23rd, 24th
Leave Rwanda for Nairobi on the 25th
Overnight in Nairobi.
Joy's camp: 26th-28th.
Offbeat Meru: 29-31st.
Sosian: Feb 1st-3rd
Campi Ya Kanzi: 4th-6th
Little Governors: 7th-8th
Il Moran: 9th-10th
Nairobi and out on the 11th
Of course, both of us adopted baby ele's at Sheldrick's so we can visit them while in Nairobi on our final afternoon to end our adventure on a really high note! 8-)
And BTW, since I suck at ever getting trip reports done, sundowner will be handling that responsibility. (She doesn't know that yet!;-) )

Nice report by Cindy. She's as detailed as I am!
But she did leave out the part where I teared-up when I looked at John's (kimburu) photos of Elsa's grave too...:'(
She may have thought that part was too embarrassing though. ;-)

Well I was wrong about posting the final itinerary as we've had yet another change due to the fact that Luca wasn't going to be at CYK when we were. I couldn't go all that way to Kenya and NOT see him! Rwanda portion stays the same.
Here's revision number...well, who's counting at this point!
CYK (now first) 3 nts
Meru 3 nts
Sosian 3 nts
Joy's 3 nts.
Little Governors 4 nts. (originally we had 2 LG and 2 Il Moran but LG cleared for all 4 nts.)
8 days and counting for me. 12 and counting for sundowner...

Tom-
I've used the same guide at the Governor's camps each time I've gone and although we don't get a chance to do the 'sundowner', he pushes the limit on the length of our drives.
Usually the first out in the a.m. and last back in at night.
I don't ever remember coming back in before it was dark.
And you're right, a definite food overload!

I leave on my first trip to Africa on February 11th. I cannot believe that I am leaving in a little over a month. I have never researched, planned or anticipated a trip this much. Here is my final itinerary:
11 February 2007
Leave San Francisco, go through Boston, Zurich and onto Nairobi. Staying at
Norfolk Hotel the first night.
13 February 2007
Fly to Kigali, Rwanda. Staying at Gorillas Nest Hotel.
14 February 2007
Go gorilla tracking in PNV. Back to Kigali that night and overnight at Hotel des Mille Collines.
15-16 February 2007
Tarangire. Staying at Swala
17-18 February 2007
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge.
19-22 February 2007
Serengeti: Tanzania Under Canvas
23 February 2007
Nairobi and a trip to the Daphne Sheldrick Center for an elephant visit (I have adopted, so going at about 4:30).
24 February 2007
Leaving for home at 12:20 am…boo hoo. Nairobi to Zurich (have a day room for the long 6 hour lay over), Washington Dulles and home to SFO.
Now if I could just pack a duffle with 33lbs or less, all would be right with the world!

To Cindy (sundowner) and Sandy(divewop):
With your change in itinerary, does this mean you will be at Little Governor's Feb.7-10? My husband and I will be there Feb. 9-12, arriving Air Kenya from Nairobi at 9:15 am on the Friday! Our first safari, celebrating our 25th anniversary! Perhaps we will meet over the campfire- Would love to hear stories of your adventures!

Caroline-
Oh my gosh, yes, we'll be at LG's from the 7th-11th! 8-)
What a great place to celebrate your 25th! You will love it there! It has a resident family of warthogs, and eles passing through camp all the time.
Looks like we have a couple of nights (9th & 10th) to sit around the campfire and swap stories.
Another fodorite gathering! This is too funny. I was just corresponding with another Africaphile about meeting them in Rwanda since our paths will be crossing there!
If you get a chance, send me an email at
the above address.
