Cape Town - Cape Peninsula vs Winelands
I'll be spending a couple of days in Cape Town next month with a rental car, and I'll have time for a day's journey down the Cape Peninsula or through nearby Winelands, but I won't have time to do both. I realize they're very different, but just wondering preference of others. Thanks!

Have just returned from our wonderful trip to Africa, including 3 full days in Cape Town. I know what you mean about the dilemma of picking and choosing which things to do! Although we did not visit Cape Point, we did visit the Winelands and totally enjoyed our day there in spite of rainy weather. Just a point to consider: I had initially (and falsely) thought that Cape Point was the furthest point south in Africa and that it was where the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean meet.......this is NOT the case. This fact impacted my choice of activities, and thus we filled our days with other activities. I will put in a plug for visiting Robben Island if you are still trying to fill your time; it was an amazing experience to talk to a former prisoner!! Be sure to book your reservation for this in advance because they do sell out on some days; I was so glad that someone mentioned that on this forum so that we didn't miss the opportunity to go on the day I had planned to visit Robben Island. If I had waited to purchase my tickets on the actual day, we would have been out of luck.

Depends on where you are from...if you live close to the sea, you would probably be more fascinated with the Cape Winelands, but if you usually don't see the ocean often, then a trip down the Cape Peninsula is the way to go. So, it is really up to you. You won't be disappointed with either.

We did both last Nov. I am in California surrounded by winelands and ocean and enjoyed both the same. Visited the Cheetah Outreach in Spier (winelands)and saw the penguins at Boulder Beach (on way to the Cape) Both were big highlights as the drives through the country and along the seaside were fantastic.

You definitely have time to visit both. It only takes one day to visit Stellenbosch and I highly recommend it. I spent almost the last year backpacking in Africa and it was one of our highlights. I would also drive down the coast to Cape of Good Hope - also only takes a day and is very beautiful. You can also stop at Penguin Point on the way.
