Back from Rwanda and Tanzania

I am back from Rwanda and Tanzania and am working on my trip report, but wanted to give you a few tidbits. Started in Rwanda to see gorillas. Saw group 13 and it was amazing. Group 13 has a 3-4 week old baby along with about 5 other young gorillas. When we came upon them on a steep hill, the young ones were chasing each other and tumbling all over the place. Had to keep moving around so they wouldn’t roll right into us. Silverback almost backed into my husband, both were a little startled…husbands look on face…priceless. Gorilla’s Nest was a fine place to stay and Hotel Des Mille Collines was everything the board said it was…..not a very good hotel. Spent a day seeing Kigali and saw the Genocide Memorial, very well done.

In Tanzania started at Tree Tops in Lake Manyara because Swala in Tarangire was closed due to high water. Then I was shifted over to the Crater Lodge for 3 nights. I already had 2 nights there so the extra night wasn’t necessary, but I made the best of the views and the daily bubble baths with rose pedals.

Then off to my favorite place, Tanzania Under Canvas. I LOVED this place. I was in camp 3 in Ndutu and it was the ultimate experience. Very well run, food was outstanding, guides were great, weather was perfect and the amounts of animals was amazing. I shed a tear when we left TUC.

It took us an entire day to get from the Serengeti to Nairobi to head home. Then while in Nairobi visited Sheldrick and my adopted baby elephant, Chyulu. These people do great work and I encourage everyone to check it out. Daphine herself made an appearance as she and some of the other dedicated individuals were working with an elephant with bad experiences and seeing if aromatherapy would help. God love these people that care so much.
