The time will fly and you'll be heading out before you know it! We'll be wanting a trip report. I had such a wonderful time. We also did Cairo, a Nile cruise, and Abu Simbel - and all are fantastic. Egypt is a special place - and the sights are mind-boggling.

You will have the most wonderful experience you have had in your lifetime - I am sure of it.
A lot of people read lots of books and watch documentaries etc before they go. I didnt the first time I went and it just amazed me completely, so just sit back and relax, think about your packing and leave your mind open to the most wonderful experience thats coming to you!
have a wonderful time!!

You will enjoy this very much Eygpt has sooo much too offer.
Abu Simbel was amazing, are you doing the sound and light show there? that was fantastic.
The Nile cruise was great life down the nile seems like your in a time warp........incredibly fasinating is all I can say.
Are you cruising Lake Nasser to Abu Simbel or are you flying/ driving?

thanks everyone - this really is going to be the trip of a lifetime. DH and I have been all over Europe but this is the first time we've been to Egypt and I think the sights will blow me away. We are not doing the sound and light show at Abu Simbel, we are there for a morning and then back to cairo. We are flying there. Anyone know how the Egyptian Wines are? Am trying to pick a good wine for a celebration on the nile cruise (a big birthday) and my tour operator suggested just going with the Egyptian wines as they are good. thoughts?

Dutyfree -
Here's my itinerary:
Day 1 - Arrive in Cairo late afternoon
Day 2 - Cairo
Day 3 - Cairo
Day 4 - Day trip to Alexandria
Day 5 - Leave Cairo, fly to Aswan, overnight in Aswan
Day 6 - Early morning trip to Abu Simbel, board Nile Cruiser
Days 6 - 10 - Four-night Cruise (Oberoi Philae)
Day 10 - Leave Cruiser, tour Luxor, overnight in Luxor
Day 11 - Return to Cairo
Day 12 - Free day in Cairo, leave at 8:00 pm for airport
In Cairo, we plan to do all the "usual" things -- Pyramids (Giza, Saqqara), museum, Islamic Cairo/Khan al Khalili, Coptic Cairo. We're going to see the whirling derviches at Al-Ghouri one night, and we'll probably do a felucca ride one night (though we'll also be doing that in Aswan).

dutyfree, here is my itinerary:
day 1: arrive cairo around 6 pm.
day 2: cairo (giza!)
day 3: cairo (museums,bazaar)
Day 4: fly to luxor, then board cruise
days 5-7: cruise down nile stopping at the usual suspects
day 8: to abu simbel
day 9: home at an ungodly hour - our flight from cairo leaves at 4 am!!
For the first time ever in traveling we used an agent, we have never done that before but for egypt we figured it was worth it. so ker and downey put the trip together for us and we have a private guide the whole time. so I have personally had to do less planning then I usually do, which has it's ups and downs. down because I love the planning but up because I can be lazy and still assured of a good trip!
