I would probably visit with your OBGYN about it. I had the same experience with our county travel clinic as you with your travel doctor. The first trip to Africa they said I should get everything including yellow fever. I was going to Namibia. Lots of jabs and anxiety for nothing. It was winter and there were no bugs of any kind.

I think my daughter was 4 months pregnant when we went to Mashatu and MalaMala in 2008. Her doctor looked up where she was going and said she was ok to go and no malaria drugs.

When I took my 10 & 12 yr old kids in 2006 their pediatrician looked up where they were going (MalaMala and Namibia) and said they were ok to go and no malaria drugs. She (pediatrician) told me she has taken many trips to malaria zones and did not take malaria meds because of the time of year she went.

Sometimes I believe the advice you are given differs because of the giver. If it's a doctor that's never been out of the US and Africa is this hot jungle full of snakes and mosquitos you will get every shot and take every pill.

Regardless, you have to do what you are comfortable with. The health of both of you is the most important. You'll have fun wherever you go.

CONGRATS on to your choice! MATEYA is AWESOME! You will LOVE every minute of your stay! And INNOCENT the chef will spoil you! SURE!

They have a few mossies here and there - but NO MALARIA! No need for any precaution! Beds have wonderful mossie nets as well!

If you feel better - just TAKE! a doc-advised insect repellent with you just in case!

You will have a fab time and most probably they will grant you a SUV without charging if they aren't full!

Philip the guide is the most gentle guy and very knowledgeable!

I am feeling not just a little bit of JEALOUSY now... ;-)

Happy travels!

Aw bummer, I was hoping to avoid bugs entirely! ;-) Okay, I'll check with the doc to see what would work best for me. No matter where I travel, if there's a bug in sight, I get bitten so I'll have to protect myself somehow.

Thanks everyone for all your help and advice!!
