Old Martina's Hall

Old Martina's Hall Review

Although this enchanting restaurant is new, the building it's in has a long, storied history. This restored Pueblo Revival building with thick adobe walls and sturdy viga-and-latilla ceilings is across the road from the famed San Francisco de Asis Church and was run as a rowdy dance hall for generations by the town's iconic Martinez family (former resident and late actor Dennis Hopper used to party here). It's no less convivial today, as both an inviting spot for cocktails and happy-hour snacks as for dining, in one of the beautiful salons with modern spherical chandeliers and local artwork. Come early for crab eggs Benedict or steak and eggs for breakfast, or flaky tart from the French bakery in the evening. The wild salmon with baby bok choy and truffle-chive beurre blanc is quite good.
