This Hawaiian favorite was founded in 1966, even before the first McDonald's opened in the Islands, and now boasts 27 outlets. Maui's version is the latest to emerge and its architecture, cushy booths, and local art make it quite posh for a 24-hour-a-day, Denny's-type establishment. It's famous for its chili and rice, which it barges over to Kahului Harbor from its main Oahu facility (where more than 110 tons per month are made in giant vats). The fried chicken is crisp and the curry stew is ono (delicious). But watch out for the MSG (monosodium glutamate): many of the entrées contain it. A fast-food counter does a brisk business of Zip Pacs (mini bento boxes you can take to the beach) as well as pupu platters of fried noodles and chicken katsu. Order the famous Napples (apple turnovers) by the dozen at the Napoleans' Bakery counter up front.
