Many years ago, the elegant Grande Colonial Hotel in the heart of La Jolla "village" housed a drugstore owned by actor Gregory Peck's father. In the sleekly contemporary dining room that now occupies the space, acclaimed chef Jason Knibb serves satisfying seasonal fare at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. At night the perfectly executed menu may include tantalizing appetizers like Jamaican jerk pork belly or lamb sugo. The kitchen's creative flair comes through with dishes such as duck breast with pickled Swiss chard and ginger, and short ribs with smoked shiitake mushroom puree. Delicious desserts include spiced crumb cake with butternut ice cream and caramelized bacon.
