Chateau Marmont

Fodor's Review:

If we had a dollar for every time a celebrity interview was conducted alongside the Marmont pool. This secluded hotel, hidden in greenery off the Sunset Strip, has earned its stripes as a popular hideaway for industry actors, musicians, and writers. The ambience is chic without being frosty; most important, the hotel cultivates a sense of privacy. Stars such as Jim Morrison, Robert De Niro, Boris Karloff, Marilyn Monroe, and Dustin Hoffman liked this hotel so much that they moved in for long periods of time. In 1982 actor John Belushi checked out permanently here, of a drug overdose. Though most areas are strictly for guests, you can visit the main-floor lounge or outdoor patio for a meal or a cocktail.
