Fodor's Expert Review Kılıç Ali Paşa Hamamı
The only major Ottoman-era hammam above the Golden Horn was meticulously restored in 2012 and is just steps from the Istanbul Modern, itself under renovation (and temporarily situated in Beyoğlu). Completed in 1583, the hammam is one of Sinan's last significant works, with the second-largest dome of any hammam in Istanbul. The services at this beautiful bath don't come cheap—prices start at 450 TL for a professional scrubbing—but it tends to be less crowded than the tourist-oriented baths in the Old City (at least so far). Since there's just one bathing facility, there are separate visiting times for women (8–4) and men (4:30–11:30), and reservations are recommended.
