Next to the Hermitage and St. Isaac's Cathedral, Casa Leto has a mere five rooms. With high ceilings, stucco work, and neutral tones, rooms are spare, but larger than average for the city. Complimentary extras include breakfast, light refreshments, local telephone calls (and international to most destinations), and high-speed Internet. The staff can organize tickets to performances and tours beyond the usual, such as mushroom picking, ice fishing, or visiting the vaults of the Hermitage. The hotel not only provides airport transfers, but if you need a translator or a member of the hotel staff to meet you, they'll do so, too. Visa help, translators, a local mobile phone—this small casa seems to stop at nothing when it comes to service. The building shares a late-night sushi restaurant and a hair salon.

I stayed in this hotel for a week in late May. It is conveniently located, reasonably priced (as hotels in Russia go) and one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had in recent years in a hotel. Breakfast, snacks, free international telephone calls (to land lines) and internet service are included in the rate. If that's not enough, the staff is fabulous, helping with tours, dinner suggestions and reservations and with tours.
