Lyon and the Alps Restaurants

Auberge de l'Île

Updated 04/15/2014

Fodor's Review

If you're taking a walk along the River Saône, this enchanted eatery on leafy Île Barbe is the perfect place to refuel. Whether outside on the terrace or inside the graceful former 17th-century monastery refectory, it serves smart, contemporary cuisine based on fresh market products prepared with originality. Chef Jean-Christophe Ansanay-Alex is famous for his oral daily menu performance (listen for game in fall or winter), and the wine list is strong in local Condrieu

and Côte-Rotie selections. Ordering a prix-fixe lunch menu (Tuesday to Friday: €48) will help you avoid a major economic hemorrhage.

A perfect oasis for foodies

Forget about the walk to the Auberge, it's a long way from Vieux Lyon along busy streets on either side of the Soane. But, take a taxi (or bus) to this wonderful spot with terrific food and atmosphere.
