Fodor's Expert Review Daruma

$$$$ Tokyo Japanese

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Named after the hollow wooden dolls—talismans of good luck for the Japanese—that decorate the interior, this casual eatery specializes is yakitori, bits of chicken meat and cartilage grilled on skewers. Daruma serves yakitori in the style of Hakata, an area of Fukuoka city in southern Japan, where the dish is not limited to poultry, but includes pork and vegetables. Adventurous eaters may want to sample horse sashimi and mentaiko, a marinated fish roe that is another famous delicacy from Hakata.
