which area of Kauai to stay in Aug?
We want to spend some time in Kauai for our honeymoon on Aug. Do you recommend staying in the Poipu or Wailua area? Or even up North? We want an area that has sun and is easily accessible to other things since we don't want to spend all our time at a resort. Thanks!

We stayed in Poipu for our honeymoon. Poipu is generally known to have more sun than the north shore, but I would guess that at that time of year, the north shore would have pretty good sun, too. We enjoyed Poipu, loved the beach, but loved the north shore even more. The beauty of the north shore is the best. Very green and mountainous and lush. Our second trip to Kauai we stayed on the north shore and loved it. Stayed at the Hyatt for honeymoon and the next year stayed at Hanalei Bay Resort on the north shore. THings to do on the south shore would be seeing Waimea Canyon, taking a boat excursion along the Napali coast, seeing souting horn , and there are some waterfalls worth seeing. The beaches along the north shore are fantastic, hiking, and waterfalls, and walking around Hanalei.

We split our time between the Princeville on the north shore and the Hyatt on the south shore...during that time the north shore will have the more swimmable waters and the beauty there is unsurpassed!

We are also going in August and we are staying on the North Shore and the South Shore. We have rented a condo on the North Shore (Princeville) for 5 nights, and then we are staying at the Hyatt on Poipu for 3 nights. We figured this was the best of both worlds...it would allow us to see and spend time on both sides of the island without doing a lot of driving back and forth.

I agree with all the previous posts. Stay on both shores if you want to experience the entire island. Driving between the two wastes a lot of time.
I prefer the north shore, however, the south shore has a lot to offer too.
