Where's your favorite seat to see a Padres game in Petco Park, San Diego?

Heading down to San Diego next weekend for our son's graduation from SDSU (GO AZTECS!) - want to treat our guests to a Padres vs. Giants baseball game on Thursday night (5/21). Not sure how many are coming, so I'm hesitant to buy the tickets in advance.

1). What's your fav seat at Petco Park and do you think I can buy 4-6 tickets on the day of the game? I'm willing to spend up to $35.00 per ticket.

2). Any pre-game deals you have tried? I heard one of the near-by restaurants outside the park has a happy hour that is a winner!

3). We're staying at Humphreys on Shelter Island...how far in advance should we leave for the 7:00 p.m. game? Parking ideas?

Thanks!

Huge Padre fan and done most of the different options..we really enjoy the restaurant (PADRES HALL OF FAME BAR & GRILL) above the metals building but now we do the $5 park pass..no seat but we mill around and drink at happy hours in the Gaslamp..google the bar and grill or go to padres.com
3rd base line is our favorite place..

Omni hotel next to Petco has Mc Cormicks and Schmicks.. the best happy hour and drinks and the Ped bridge that you have to get stamped at the bar is awesome to get back and forth from the park...
basic for pizza..excellent..tin fish for fish tacos and beers next door patio for gameday fun..outside patio.

JSix at Hotel Solamar rooftop for drinks and small plates is something your kids will probably love the most..very hip, reasonable and great party atmosphere..

Marriott Gaslamp rooftop is great for drinks right across the street and you look onto the park.
Taxi it back and forth to your hotel..or the hotel shuttle for a nice $20 spot will usually drive to the park and pick you up..

Wave to me - I will be at the game on 5/21 with DH; we are celebrating my birthday! We always like to sit on the first base side,no matter what park. Since many runners make it to at least first base, you get to see more action right in front of you but not everyone makes it to third. Does that make sense?

We bought tickets online and got Field Box for $34 [senior for DH] $40 for mine; with fees it came to $87 total.

The happy hour at McCormick's is early on days with night games 3-5 pm I think.

Meant to add that Padres v. Giants is a big rival thing; not sure if it is big enough to make same day purchase a problem.

hey thanks! You guys are so quick to respond...and great info!

DEBITNM - I like your idea of first base side...where are your seats? My FIL's from San Fran, so he's excited about the rivalry.

KSUcat - fish tacos sound great...we might just do that Omni Park happy hour.

I used to sit all the time on first base line but I got hit by a line foul and just am to chicken anymore..great place but third base at Petco is perfect and not as likely to get hit..
Have fun Deb!
Here is the website for tinfish..

I would sit on the 1st base side as you get the best view of the park. Petco is my 2nd favorite park and I have been to 5 games there. use www.seatdata.com as you can click on a section to get the view from the seats.

Parking in the Gaslamp is cheaper than the 1 way taxi fare from Shelter Island (its around $15)

I would probably try the Padres website beforehand to see how many tickets are available. But I wouldn't worry too much about a sellout.

YES!!! Glad to here that, tchoiniere. It ought to be a good one. We are staying at Marriott Gaslamp, so we will just walk over.

Thats where I have stayed while in SD for games. Can't beat that location. Ask for a room overlooking the stadium if possible. The bar on the roof is great for a view and good drinks. Does get pretty crowded though after games.
