Where to Visit/Stay Between Santa Fe and White Sands

Hello,

I am driving from Santa Fe to White Sands and then on to El Paso. I am trying to decide where to go ... Truth or Consequences, Las Cruces, or somewhere else like Cloudcroft ...

Thanks!

What time of year? Cloudcroft is lovely, especially in the fall when the aspens are changing.

I would choose T or C. Especially if you are a fan of mineral springs. We stayed at Sierra Grande Lodge a few years ago. Our room came with one soak each per day. Their tubs were wonderful. Our rate included breakfast, which we enjoyed and the room was small but comfortable. We would go back. My husband met NM Lieutenant Governor (now candidate) Diane Denisch there- she had spent the night. At the time, rates were reasonable. Hope this helps.

Because of the elevation Cloudcroft is relatively cool, and Rebecca's at the Lodge was a nice restaurant. Haven't stayed at T or C so can't say Cloudcroft is better ...

Cloudcroft will be 15-20 degrees cooler. Cartlsbad is another nice option, particularly if you have time to check out the Caverns.

if you want to see White Sands, the logical place of the three would be Las Cruces...if you're coming from Santa Fe along I-25. Depending on the traffic in Albuquerque, it'll take you about five hours to drive Santa Fe to Las Cruces.

Or, if you want to just bypass Las Cruces and go straight on and visit White Sands, then spend the night in Cloudcroft, and then go on to Carlsbad Caverns. Then from Carlsbad circle around to El Paso.

If you do go to Carlsbad Caverns, try and arrive before 10am.
