Where to stay in New Orleans?

Where to stay in New Orleans?
Looking for somewhere mid-range price wise to stay in New Orleans. I have been a few times before, but my parents are visiting from England- they are in their 50s so we dont want anywhere too crazy or too near to Bourbon ST but I would like to get them a 'true' experience if that makes sense. I'd like to be in walking distance of french quarter. Were just stopping by for one night. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Go a lot live close was born there at Touro on St Charles Ave
Not sure what mid ranges is to you but
get my best deals on Canal a couple of blocks
to the quarter...
Windsor Court my #1 best food too
Monteleone in the quarter the Grand Dame my #2
Best deals usually betterbidding.com

Sheraton for me last $50
Hilton Riverside $70

We have stayed at the Place d'Armes, which we lilked a lot. For an upcoming trip, we are staying at the Hotel Provincial, which gets good reviews. Neither are in loud areas, but both are in the middle of the FQ.
I would definitely stay IN the FQ rather than near or next-to the FQ. You only have the one night, so you want to make as much of your time as possible. Plus, my own favorite part of the FQ is closer to Jackson Square and on toward Esplanade rather than the blocks closest to Canal.

I vote for the Dauphine. My DH & I stayed there on our honeymoon and will be staying there again in January. It's close to everything so they can easily walk to all the best restaurants & sights.

I know that the Place d'Arms has parking - I don't know the price though. I would definitely get a hotel that has parking on-site or a valet. Finding street parking would be tough and parking in a public lot probably not convinient.

qwovadis...my children were born at Touro Infirmary too, one during Mardi Gras...happy there were no parades on St Charles that night!
jlab89, I think you are wise to try to stay in the Quarter, and not try to be walking back and forth. Wish I could help with places, but it's been some time since we lived there. My husband was in the hotel business and worked at both the Royal Sonesta and Royal Orleans, now called the Omni Orleans or something, but at the time we were there, both owned by Sonesta Hotels. Both are very nice hotels...although the Sonesta IS on Bourbon St. They may be more than you want to pay, but perhaps Priceline is an option? Off street parking is important too, you are right!
