Where to hang out at 6 a.m. in Seattle airport?
Taking a red-eye flight back from Fairbanks, Alaska, we will arrive in Seattle at 6 a.m. on a weekday. We will have 2 hours and 45 minutes before our departing flight leaves. Can anyone suggest a good location where my family might be able to take some naps, relax, etc., other than in a restaurant or at the gate? My airline doesn't have a club facility in that airport. Is there a hotel inside the airport? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Even if there were a hotel, you'd have about an hour there before you'd have to return to check in for your next flight. I agree with MikeT -- there's simply no practical alternative but to stay at the airport.

have arrived multiple times at that time.. best thing is to try to rest on the flight..
amazing how the smell of coffee, and sight of the other travelers will re-energize you.
besides, it isn't easy trying to sleep with CNN, constant announcements, and the sound of the giant vacuum running.
how old are your children? mine always had books and snacks, or we would sometimes eat a light breakfast, and watch airplanes to pass the time. J.

Hey, now THERE's an idea! Wonder if it would be too ridiculous to make a "field trip" from the airport to the original Starbucks in Seattle. Could be interesting! And the world's most expensive cup of coffee....but memorable! Anyone have an idea of the taxi cost and time involved in roundtrip between the airport and the original Starbucks?!

I'd just wait at a departure gate that doesn't have a lot of people at it (doesn't have to be your own flight, just find one that isn't in use at the time and stretch out).
SeaTac has loads of shops & restaurants, but only a few will be open that early (at least a few of the Starbucks and probably the magazine shops).

Around $35 each way and given it's morning rush hour, allow 30 min. in (using HOV lanes) and 25 back.
Not worth it.

More like $40... taxi rates just went up a couple months ago (I was caught by surprise coming home from SeaTAc after Christmas - the fare that'd been ~$38 for years was over $42).
Not to burst your bubble, but there is absolutely *nothing* special about the original Starbucks. If you didn't know that ahead of time. It's the same as every other store.

Now if you want to see the Pike Place Market, that'd be worth it. But 2 hrs 45 mins is simply not enough time to leave the airport, come downtown, get back to the airport, and check in with sufficient time for your next flight. Not even close to it!

Suze, you left out "see the Pike Place Market" -- as you said, its not even enough time to get downtown and get back, let alone see the market (which would absolutely be worth it, if there were time....)

If military affiliated very nice (active duty or retired USO)..I stayed there in the long aftermath of 9/11 and can truly recommend the caring volunteers.
Otherwise best bet is the Mezzanine Atrium.
Maybe the Chapel/meditation room near the Atrium but everyone would have to be quiet...

Lucky for you, I think the Seattle airport is one of the nicest around. parts of it are architecturally gorgeous....there is a wonderful open space adjacent to the restaurant Anthony's (which is probably not open at that hour but is THE best airport food/restaurant that I have been to). You could easily spend that time just exploring this wonderful airport.
