Where to go in Florida?

Hi Fodorites,
My 63 year old mother & her 50 year old niece will be in Ft.Lauderdale for a church retreat 9/5-9/8. I'd like to join them 9/8-9/12 to help them see more of Florida. (They wouldn't want to drive themselves.) The ladies are more interested in great seafood and natural beauty than shopping, theater, or hiking/swimming. I thought the Keys would be nice (I've never been), but are there other areas that you recommend?

BTW: My mother is Japanese-American, and her niece is coming from Japan and hasn't seen much of the US. Neither of them have been to Florida before.

If they are interested in natural beauty and scenic attractions, the Everglades is a must.

I think that they might enjoy seeing the Morakami Museum and gardens in Boca Raton, Fl. This incredible place focuses on the early 19th century Japanese that settled in that area. Stunning garden and museum. Google it and you will find info.

The drive to Key West is beautiful from Tavernier West. The Keys have excellent local catch. Even the finest restaurants are very casual and reasonably priced. Just because it is a tiki bar doesn't mean it might not be the best fish you have eaten.

From Key West you can take a sundown cruise or sail.

This site has many threads about activities in the Keys. Check them out.
