Where to eat our first night in Waikiki -- honeymoon!
Hi,
My fiance and I are flying into Oahu for the first 2 nights of our Hawaiian honeymoon in August. We will be arriving there around 3 p.m. from Boston, so it will feel much later and I'm sure we will be exhausted! What would be a good place to catch a late lunch/early dinner that first night? We are just looking for something casual and fun that will jump start our two weeks in paradise We are staying at Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach, so what are some good places right around that area? We are looking for a seafood/burger/appetizer place with a view of the water or on the beach with some yummy Hawaiin drinks. We were thinking Duke's -- any other suggestions?

Beachgirl, do Dukes!!! Perfect for your first night there, and you will be right THERE! I wouldn't do a fancy, expensive restaurant on my first night - you'll be tired. At Duke's, you'll have everything that's best about Waikiki.........beach, Mai Tai's, music, at a decent price!!!

When you arrive in Honolulu it will be 8 pm Boston time. You will probably have a nap on the plan. If you are under 80 years old you should be just about ready to rock n' roll ! Or do whatever else you might be inclined to do on the first night of your honeymoon!

I like Tiki's better than Dukes. But for a memorable honeymoon meal I'd recommend the Halekulani, too.
Another evening you should go to the Hau Tree Lanai at the New Otani, it's lovely and relaxing.

Good advice for your first night.
I would like to agree with fivestar and recommend that you have a romantic dinner at Orchids. We actually enjoyed our dinner there as much as La Mer, and it was much less expensive. To have that Hawaiaan breeze and the ocean...great memories!

Beachgirl, my recommendation above for Duke's was based on the fact that you would be jet-lagged, coming from the East Coast, and should not waste the money on a very expensive, romantic dinner that you'd be too tired to enjoy. Bu maybe you're different from me......... I'm so wired the night before I fly to Hawaii that I sleep very little, then on the actual flights to Hawaii, I'm one who never sleeps one wink........ so by the time I get there, I like to wing it, depending on just how tired I feel. As in, eat where it's convenient and relaxing, and possibly in my travel clothes...... and Duke's will be right there at your hotel, it's on the beach, has very good food and music and drinks. But, HEY, maybe you're one who sleeps on the plane most of the way, arrives bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and raring to go! But I've found that I enjoy special dinners more if I wait a couple of days after I get my energy back. All the restaurants mentioned sound wonderful to me!

Michele's in the Colony Surf is one of the most romantic restaurants I have ever been to. If you get there early, you can watch the sun set from your table. The beach is not too far away and last time we were there, the windows are open so you can hear the surf in the back ground. Just a lovely place. Magical really. And memorable food. If the food is too fancy, I would recommend going there for a drink anyway. A very special place.

After every thing I've read in the four long months I've been planning our anniversary trip to Hawaii, I have decided on Orchids in Waikiki for dinner on the actual anniversary. It may not end up being the biggest tab of the trip, but overall, I think we'll have the best time there. Our first dinner will be at Tiki's. The reservation's made. Duke's sounds like a better place for lunch than dinner.
DON'T worry about making your first dinner there the "special" meal. You'll be tired and confused and all whacked out on time zones. (I find it very difficult to eat under those circumstances.)
I'll post my report when we get back. 13 days to go!
