Where best to watch the shuttle launch

My husband and I will be in Florida during the scheduled shuttle launch in November. We will be staying in Daytona Beach. Where is the best place to see the shuttle launch? How close can we get? How close do we want/need to get? This will be our one and only chance to do this, so we don't want to be in the wrong area, just because it looks good on a map. It is scheduled for late afternoon. Where can we legally park a car and walk to get a good view? Being totally unfamiliar with the area we need ideas.

Keep an eye on the space center website as launch dates can and do change.

Thanks for your information. That web site was much better than the one I'd found that listed possible locations, but no descriptions or reasons to pick one over the other.

And I meant to mention, get there early. Really early. The crowds at the most recent launch were huge. At a minimum, bring sunscreen and water and something to pass the time.

backpack_mike, the space center is using a lottery system to sell tickets to the remaining launches. If anyone is interested in getting KSC launch tickets, be sure to sign up for their email notifications so that you can have a chance in the lotteries. http://www.kennedyspacecenter.com/event-sign-up.aspx

We stayed at the Hilton Cocoa Beach and were able to see a launch quite easily. The hotel has lovely access to the public beach, and you can walk up the beach as far as you want.
