Transportation to KSC for shuttle launch?

Hi everyone –

I'm so excited. I got tickets to see the November Shuttle Launch at Kennedy Space Center, but have a couple of questions. Because I'm not on a "tour" for the launch I'll need to get transportation to KSC that day, but I don't know what's available. The plan is to fly into Orlando and stay there for a day or two. Probably be renting a car, too – but I'm pretty certain vehicles will not be accepted at the center. Is there a bus? Shuttle? Or something else that I can look into in order to get from Orlando (or any other place you suggest) to see the launch.

I'll be working to book everything that's necessary over the weekend.

Appreciate your help in advance.

Sandra

How exciting, I saw a shuttle launch years ago. I will never forget it. When I went we were allowed to drive and park. I would check online at the KSC website, I am sure there is info there.

Lucky you!

Cars are allowed at the center; you should be getting a vehicle pass with your tickets that will get you onto the KSC visitors center parking.

Thanks so much. I really appreciate the fact Fodorites can be your eyes and ears to places you've not been yet.

I forgot my standard disclaimer: keep a close eye on the kennedy space center website as launch dates can and do change.

Did you get your launch tickets throught the KSC VC lottery ?
Only those with the special car placard are allowed to access the KSC VC on the launch day !
If you got your ticket on eBay you may now have the problem to find someone with the placard that takes you inside with his/her car.

Unfortunately I was not random selected by the lottery but was later very lucky to get a launch viewing ticket on the causeway with Florida Dolphin Tours. Yes, it costs the double, but they have pick up locations outside KSC!! See you there !! Good luck !

Fabio, thank you for bringing up the issue of the placard and I hope you have a great time watching the shuttle launch!

For anyone who is unclear how this works, if you get tickets to the launch from the space center, you will receive along with the tickets a vehicle pass that will allow you to drive your car onto the property and park it at the visitors center. No vehicle pass = no bringing your car to the space center.
