Upstate NY vs Long Island
Hi,
I have about 48 hours for traveling outside NY, was thinking about visiting family in East Hamptons for one night, then head to Cold Spring for one more night. You think it's too much of a hassle and I should stay in Hamptons instead (or make an excuse and just travel to Cold Spring instead)?
We're talking about this week so weather seems pretty good. We are two, and would like a chilled retreat and have a car with us to travel from JFK.
Thanks,
Daniel

I would do either or - otherwise you can spend a lot of time just on the road.
You don;t say what day/time you arriving - but assuming it's Friday there will be heavy traffic wherever from 4 pm on to 7 at least.
And if you're coming back late Sunday that can also be heavy traffic you would need to allow for.
Frankly I love the Hamptons this time of year and there is plenty to see and do and with free housing I would just stay there.
