Ok, I know this is strange as I am a Maine native, but sometimes we don't explore our great state the way we should. My father and his friend would like like to take day trips throughout July to visit some fun places. They are from the Camden/Rockland area, so looking for something outside of the immediate area. My father has mobility issues, so no hiking, biking, etc. Any suggestions would be helpful.

My FIL loved visiting the Cole Transportation Museum in Bangor. On the same visit there was some logging competition between college teams at Leonards Mills Logging Museum. The restored sawmill was operating with several guys who did the restoration there to answer questions. Since my FIL grew up doing some logging, he loved seeing the old chain saws and at the transportation museum the old vehicles brought back a lot of memories. Leonards Mills is near Brewer.
The Maritime Museum in Bath runs some interesting lighthouse cruises. Years ago we did an all day one but most of what's offered now is only an hour or so. Still would be a good boat ride with interesting narration. There's a once a month Boothbay area lighthouses cruise that's longer. On July 16, I think.
Near the end of the month there's an antique tractor show in Elliot Maine. If you google antique tractors or antique steam engines, you might get other events. Sometimes the events are more about antique steam powered engines than tractors.
There are probably some interesting events that aren't well advertised so try googling things about their interests. We've been to Maine to watch mud bogging.

Have you considered Bar Harbor? According to google maps its about 2 hrs from Rockland. Not sure whether that will work for you.

I love it there-its a neat little town with lots of little shops and fun places to eat! Plus you can see lots of beautiful Acadia Park right from the car!!

Something Ive been meaning to do is take the ferry from Bar Harbor over to Nova Scotia. I know this takes you out of your Maine itinerary but I just thought Id include the idea since youll be right there!

I guess that would make for a long "day trip" but maybe your dad and his friend will be feeling adventerous!

Thanks for sharing the useful information about Maine.

Last month my relatives toured maine told me that they were fascinated by natural attractions like lakes, rivers, streams, and highlands. Indeed they visited acadia national park and baxter state park and beaches.
