The way from Quebec to NYC - your opinions needed
We plan our way from Quebec City to New York City between August 17th and 19th (two overnights). (2 families of 3 adults and 2 children). Possible ways may be: via Adirondack, via Vermont, via Vermont/New Hampshire.
I will be glad to see your opinions as to the route and places for lodging. Thanks in advance

We did this, NYC to QC one August, years ago. We also did it often coming and going from Montreal, in the fall.
We stopped in Lake George on the way, kids will like it , there was a wonderful antiques market at Blue Mt Lake that we spent a day on ... on the way back, we stopped and stayed at the Sagamore, which was great for us. They have lodges ( bedrooms, fireplaces, private decks) in addition to the main house rooms .. and plenty of things to do on the Lake.
Look in a little area .. I have to look for the name . Diamond something . we stayed a night there once, little cabins right on the beach .. it was great also .. not as posh as the Sagamore but clean and a good location.
We also stopped in Saratoga on the way back to NYC during horesrace season.. that was fun , hot and lots of traffic ..

We did this last summer but at a slower pace. We visited Hyde Park (toured FDR's home and museum, Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory in Vermont, Stowe VT, Cooperstown (Baseball Hall of Fame), and went white water rafting in the Adirondacks. We stayed at the Trapp Family Lodge (near Stowe), in a B & B in Cooperstown and at a little hotel in North Creek, NY (Adirondack park.) If I were to narrow the list down my family I would probably choose Cooperstown and rafting in the Adirondacks as the highlights.

Since you only have 2 days to travel to NYC, I would recommend the Adirondack Northway. A good stopping point for you would be Lake George. There is outdoor entertainment, a beautiful lake, plenty of outlet shops, and fun shops for the children. You will need to make hotel reservations ahead, it gets busy in town. The Sagamore hotel would be very expensive in August. There are smaller hotels through town, but I have never stayed at any, since I live 45 minutes from there.
