I know about Taos regional airport but I don't think 747's fly in there, not showing up on kayak. What else is closest?

ABQ is the airport for Taos. There is nothing closer if you are coming from just about anywhere.

The drive from airport to Taos will take 2.5 to 3 hours.

Thanks deb...and debnm noless!!!

If I wanted to go skiing in taos let my non skiing sister and husband drive on to Grand Canyon in Winter, is that feesable? or just too long and treacherous of a drive. I am thinking too long would be more than 8hours? Too treacherous? Well I won't be in the car so that would be falling off a mountain in ice and snow lol.

It would be 6+hr drive from ABQ to Grand Canyon, or about 9hrs from Taos to the GC.

Regardless of whether or not it's treacherous, side tripping to GC from Taos just doesn't make sense to me.

Roads aren't through the mountains, but it's a hellufa long way just to visit GC in the middle of the winter.

Grand Canyon in winter is quite cold and can be less than a desirable destination; Arizona does indeed have winters.

Driving from Taos [or even ABQ] could entail some bad weather conditions [snow, ice, road closures].

Perhaps your sister needs to rethink her plans and do GC on another trip.

Not her idea deb, kind of my attempt to gett her family to go with me to taos. If its not safe than I guess I won't suggest.

If you are not from the area and you have never seen the grand canyon, would not matter to me anyway if I had to stay in the car ....Kinda know my brother inlaw would cry even from the car.

But if its a slick icy drive,,,,,not sure that is something people would be up for. Appreciate the feedback.
