I'll be spending a few days in and around Yosemite and am glad that I'm coming back from the eastern Sierra on Tuesday. It's predicted to get down into the 20s at night and there's a possibility of snow showers around Tenaya Lake.

it's not entirely unheard of to have snow now. We once stayed at Silver Lake, just south of Tahoe around Oct 10 and had a day of snow.

I'm expecting at least a dusting of snow if not more at Crater Lake NP on Tuesday (10/4). The guy who slid down the snowbank at Crater Lake in July just got out of the hospital.

(thanks, Dayenu!!!)

It's not unheard of, but I do NOT like it!! We had snow last October, and it didn't quit until mid-June. I'm still holding a grudge........>

KCRA reporting snow down to 6,000 ft. Whaaa, we still have some grapes to pick here in the valley. Napa/Sonoma have just started!

I heard that the grape growers are picking like mad to get the grapes off the vine before it turns cold.

It's been raining in the eastern Sierra. And I just read on TripAdvisor that CalTrans will be closing Sonoma Pass on Tuesday at 5pm.

Less than 2 weeks into Autumn and Winter wants to come to the high country. Crater Lake forecast: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick...d2=-122.13&e=0

Most Californians have never even heard of Canadian Ice wines.
Between Niagara Falls and Toronto the wineries actually wait until the grapes have ice on them before picking.

Ha ha ha Tom Fuller we went to Niagara Falls, Canadian side, and asked a local Fodorite where we can buy ice wine - she was born and lived all her life in that area, she never heard of it!

The problem is in CA that few wine producing areas ever get frost by harvest time, only early rains sometime, so you get mildew.

Bonny Doon winery used to make a vin de glacière for lack of frost. I think that it is now made by a different winery.
