Seeking location for tri-annual family reunion 2010

Hello, all
We have a tri-annual reunion for our extended family of about 25 and growing. The next is the summer of 2010. Yes, next year.
Our grammas and grampas are in late 60's. The youngest grand child will be one, total of 8 kids ranging up to 8 years of age.
Water is a main attraction for us. Golf for the grampas. Hiking, canoing, rafting, kayaking and beaches would also be of interest to our family members, and maybe some fishing.
We would be looking for condo type accomodations, or a couple of houses close together, where we would all be closely located.
We are mostly on the west coast, but also some in midwest and east.
I know absolutely nothing of the Great Lakes and have not started any research. Our previous reunions have been at Lake Tahoe and Whistler.
Any ideas from the Great Lakes region of this great country?

I think Northern Michigan during the summer is one of the prettiest places. You can look at the Homestead Resort outside of Traverse City. Something for everyone there.
Mackinaw Island is a great place. No motorized vehicles allowed. Horses, carriages and bicycles is the mode of travel on the island.
Torch Lake outside of Traverse City is one of the most beautiful Lakes in the world. You would want to go there in July or August it is a very deep lake and very cold.
Look on VRBO for lodgings in the area

VRBO is always a good place to look for places to stay.
Good luck

Too bad you said you wanted to hear from the Great Lakes people, because I was going to suggest Black Butte or Sun River in Oregon (no beaches, but everything else you mentioned!)

Just realize that the "water" attraction for you will be cold. You can definitely swim in July, August, September, but it ain't bath water.

Northern Michigan is gorgeous, but it takes awhile to get there. There are flights out of Detroit and Chicago, or you can just drive from the big cities, but you are looking at 4 to 7 hours.

Cities to google:
Petoskey (especially Bay Harbor)
Harbor Springs
Traverse City
Mackinac Island

It is a magical place in the summer.

I would like to suggest Williamsburg, Virginia for your tri-annual family reunion! It's a perfect place that is unbelievably beautiful and definitely would hold some unique memorable experiences forever! The Patrick Henry Inn & Suites would be able to accommodate your family's needs. There is a national park nearby great for picnicing, canoeing, hiking, etc. Yorktown Victory Center is filled with battlegrounds next to a newly renovated beach just 20 minutes from our location! Many attractions such as Busch Gardens, Water Country, Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown Settlement are within minutes from us. If you have any questions, I can help you! Just call 800-446-9228 and ask for me!
