I vote for Gold Beach...but only because we enjoyed the jet boat ride originating there. Haven't tried it from the Grant's Pass end, but there have been favorable comments in this forum.

What kind of experience are you looking for? If it's a jetboat, definitely Gold Beach. If whitewater, Medford or Ashland.

How long should you spend in which areas?

Hi, we have done the Quick n Scenic trip with Hellgate Tours several times from Grant's Pass. It's very fun, you will view ospry, bald eagles, deer, etc. from the trip and the 360 turns are fun, you will get wet! ***kim***

David, you'll have plenty of time to explore Crater Lake(North Entrance just opened), then follow the Rogue down hwy 62. Go Explore Ashland , spend the Night. Morning, get up and follow the Rogue. Grants Pass is a really fun town to shop and eat, and ride the Hellgate Excursion.

Then You can take the Galice forest service road-

Clear to Gold Beach, far above the Rogue, or you can take US 199 and stop for a Sausage at Taylor's in Cave Junction. You'll hit Redwoods at Jeb Smith right below the Ca, /Border.

Have done the Hellgate from Grant's Pass and the Jet Boats from Gold Beach, have to say I think the Jet Boats from Gold Beach are better, just because I prefer that part of the river for jetboating.

However, I agree with the person who said if you are interested in doing some whitewater rafting the Medford, Ashland are is much better for that. Also, Ashland is a much more interesting town to visit than Gold Beach - although Ashland doesn't have anything quite like TuTuTun Lodge (see my answer to your other post).

Well, the way I see it, it's not a direct route to GB from Bend, and a jetboat ride should not be the center of your experience, if your goal is the Redwoods. There are parks galore along the rogue, from Union Creek on down.
