Lots of options in the neighborhood. Lincoln(up scale)…. right in Lincoln Center. Cafe Fiorello , Ed's Chowder House (dependable… nothing special) right across the street. Bar
Boulud (next to Fiorello) wine and charcuterie. Boulud Sud (around the corner on 64th) upscale.
You can check all these out on Open Table for details.
I'm certain others will chime in with more options.

made reservations at Fiorello. Have you eaten there? Seems like good reviews. Love The Modern (albeit on W 53rd)and was hoping to get reservations there but it does not except reservations beyond 30 days and do not like to wait that long.
We shall see.....

Friends and I usually eat at Fiorello before performances… convenient and not that
expensive. Food wise it's not in the same league as The Modern but I'm usually satisfied. Atmosphere is fun and bustling…. without the horrendous noise levels in lots of restaurants.
(Except one nite a nearby table was annoyingly raucous. A man back at a corner table stood up and yelled…. "pipe down up there! " Man was Alan Alda.)

I would try Lincoln (upscale Italian-influenced) before Fiorello. An entirely different class of restaurant.
And convenient for you as well. Their chef spent a few years at Per Se.

actually called Lincoln and apparently they do not accept reservations before 60 days prior to the date so will try them in October. On line showed no availability and that was probably why.....

It's way too early to make dinner reservations for December; no one in NYC makes dinner reservations 4 months out ... the best restaurants don't take them, and the ones you can make aren't really necessary. You have all the best recommendations for places. The Modern (Bar Room, I assume?) is not a difficult reservation to get, particularly early. So if you want to go there, a couple of weeks in advance is fine. Now that the new chef is getting settled in, it might be a good place to try. But Lincoln is very convenient and awfully good.
