Report On Marriott Grand Residence Lake Tahoe

We made last minute reservations to stay at the Marriott Grand Residence in South Lake Tahoe this past weekend. Since we could only spend one night we decided to splurge on the Queen-Queen-Loft configuration. Arrived around 12:30-1:00 on Saturday and found that there is pretty much only valet parking for $14 per day. In and out privileges included. Valet staff was friendly and efficient during our stay. Checkin was fast and room was available so we were allowed to check in.

The lobby is fine. There are seating areas near the front counter and near the front door wheere there was a tv tuned to Frances news. The windows faced the pool area which is quite attractive with the trees and rock. Comfortable seating and 2 jacuzzis. There is also a massage tent out there for spa services.

Our room/unit turned out to be the furthest from the lobby. View was of the whisper quiet gondola and the courtyard/shops below. The unit was very spacious especially the loft which I thought would be small. The loft was very large. On the main floor was a full bathroom, kitchen with granite counter tops and lots of appliances-blender, coffee maker etc. Large dinign room table and nice living room area with gas fireplace and tv. Master bedroom is off livng room and is nice. Fireplace opposite the bed with tv cabinet above. Balcony off the master bedroom is nice sized but the furniture is suitable only for looking at not for use. Tiny chairs and table, really tiny. Upstairs is the loft and another nice sized bedroom with bath. Beds were comfortable enough. Decor was nice. Used the pool area and it was nice.

Walked to Riva Grill which is at the Marina and is a little over 1 mile down Lake Tahoe Blvd. Had Wet Woodys and some really mediocre food. Wouldn't really recommend this place again. View is not good unless you want to look at teh rental boats and the Paddle boat. The lake is really low and so the view really suffered.

Dinner at Evans was serendipitous as we called around 5:00 to see if they could take us for dinner. They had a recent cancellation and we got it!! Whoo hoo. Dinner was awesome as usual.

Sunday we left the Grand Residence and the crowded south shore for the west side. Emerald Bay was packed full of cars and people. The bay itself still beautiful but the water level is so low you can see the land at the mouth of the bay.

On to Meeks Bay for a day on the sandy beach. Not many people ther at 12:00 but soon was very crowded. It's good the water was low, more sandy space for us.

End of our wekend took us to Tahoe City which was not at all crowded. The truckee river was so low that we worried about the fish. No rafting going on here.

The weekend was stunning in Tahoe. Not a cloud in the sky and very warm during the day.

Thanks for the report! We use my husband's Marriotts reward points frequently and it is nice to hear about which Marriotts are good. Glad you had a nice last minute trip!

From our balcony we could also see the Marriott Timber Lodge and its pool. Looked nice over there too. The ice rink is still in progress and is located up a small distance from the GR pool area. The whole Marriott facility on either side of the gondola turned out nice.

We were fortunate to win a raffle and stayed at the Marriot GR for two nights last winter. We really enjoyed our stay and it was wonderful having the gondola right there to whisk us to Heavenly.

Kathryn, What kind of room did you stay in. I'd love to hear about other room styles as we might have an occasion to stay there again without kids and wouldn't need such a large space. It seemed like the 5th floor had the rooms with lofts but I know ther are Penthouse units that don't have lofts.

We were in a one bedroom. The bedroom was good-sized with (I think) a King sized bed, fireplace and small porch. The living room area had a double bed that pulled down from the wall and I believe a sofa bed as well. The kitchen was fairly good sized for the space and there was a small eating area that seated 4. TVs were located in the bedroom and living areas.

There were four of us and the room worked well for us although we really didn't spend too much time there.
