Hi Sue,
The Wyndham is on the northwest side of the Salt Palace & very nice.
The Marriott is across the street, just east. Haven't seen the inside of it in years so can't say how they are these days.
Kind of a toss up actually, but I think the Wyndham is nicer.

Both hotels are close to the convention center, with the Marriott immediatley east of the main entrance, and the Wyndham immediately west of the main convention halls.
The Marriott rooms were recently remodeled, but the rooms in the Wyndham are also nice. The Marriott is connected to the crossroads mall and the Marriott is also closer to the main downtown area, but neither are very far.
Having said that, I would go with the hotel I could get the best deal at, or I would stay at the Marriott for the points.

I just returned Friday. The Marriott was great and oh, so convenient!
It was 108 when we arrived and I attended several events at the Wyndham.
I did not want to walk one extra step in my suit and pantyhose. The Marriott was closer by many, many steps.
As a bonus, it's hooked to a boring mall. But it was fine to pass the time.
Good luck!

Hey, TrvlPro,
You owe us a trip report. Did you get to any of the recommended restaurants, etc.? You unluckily came during our all time, ever, record-breaking weather. It's nicer this week, normal in the 90's in the valley with afternoon thunderstorms to cool off a little.
