Hi I am arriving from UK at end of April for a 2 week tour around the canyons and want to hire a car from Phoenix. However I arrive quite late after a very long flight and have booked into a local motel to crash out and then collect a car the next morning. Does anyone know whether car rental firms will deliver to motels (near the airport) or will I have to go back into the airport to collect the next morning?

Also which firm would you recommend me booking - there is such a wider choice than in the UK and have been reading some companies try to take you for a ride with lots of hidden extras?

HI Kate,

Some of the car companies actually have kiosks in hotels. I was just at Marriott Mountain Shadows last week and there is a Hertz desk there. If you haven't picked your hotel yet, you might want to look at this option. Many of the airport hotels have shuttles, so you can get back into the airport easily and free. As far as choice, I guess the best price should determine that - all the major companies are at PHX airport.

Another way to search is to go to Yahoo.com, then to travel, then to car rental. If you then type in Phoenix in the search window, you can check out wh all of the locations for all of the companies. Hope this helps!

Enterprise is known for being good about dropping cars off at hotels and residences. I've had good experiences with them. Also, I've read here that renting a car at Phoenix Airport is much more expensive than renting it off airport property.

Yes, Enterprise will often drop off and pick up.
You would need to contact them directly to confirm details, though.
