Orange County, NY to Barefoot Landing in Myrtle Beach
Hi..new to this forum and find it extremely informative. July 20th I will be driving with my young daughter to Barefoot Landing in Myrtle Beach. l am looking for suggestions to stay overnight to break up the trip and she has her heart set on seeing the battlefields of Richmond on our return trip and looking for hotel suggestions/best sites to see as well there. Thank you for any replies...Happy summer vacation one and all!!

Welcome to the forum, mommyisacop. Since Mommy is a cop, I'll be extra polite
Richmond is a good halfway stop for you. I95 is really busy between DC and Richmond, so by the time you get there, you'll probably be ready to get off the road for the day. I am a big Hampton Inn fan: great coffee, nice breakfast, indoor entrances and a pool. There are 3, but this one is on the south side. It's about 5 hours to Myrtle from there.

While in Myrtle, visit Brookgreen Gardens. It's beautiful.

Thank you for your replies No need to be polite...This mommy retired..so she is celebrating with her little girl I think we will take your recommendation for the over night and I think we will do the battlefields of Richmond on the way home. That is something my daughter really wants to see. Thank you so much!

If you really want Civil War history, drive down here to Charleston for a day. Your young one might enjoy Ft. Sumter. It's out in the Charleston harbor.

At about the same age on a trip to FL with my parents, I wanted to see Five Points in Atlanta because of Gone with the Wind!! Hilarious. I just knew I'd see Scarlett coming down the street!!
I SO agree with Sue--go down to Charleston for the day. And also, Brookgreen Gardens now has a "slave tour" that could be very interesting. Brookgreen was a plantation, but is now more known for its art and sculpture (and zoo and butterfly pavilion). It is REALLY worth a visit, and is close by for your MB location.
