I stayed at the Westin in March of this year, and found that the rooms, while fine, weren't very impressive. I also had a few minor problems with service, which were quickly remedied, but the location is wonderful.

The Omni Chicago is an all suites hotel and is lovely. The Westin is rather tired although they try very hard to maintain it. If the price is similar, definitely for Omni.
(I'm assuming you mean the Omni on Michigan Ave rather than the Omni Ambassador East)

You may want to consider the Westin Chicago River North. It is still easy walking to all the Michigan Ave. spots. Sometimes you can get prices from $79-$99 on Priceline. When you check-in you can upgrade to a superior room for another $30 or $40 dollars which is worth it. They have the "heavenly" bed and bathroom accents.
This location is across from the House of Blues, Harry Caray's and Vong's is just down the street.

I have stayed at the Omni Chicago and thought it was great.
I am going later this month and we got the Westin for $100 on Priceline so I'm hoping it will be okay. I'm sure it won't be as nice as the Omni, but $100 is a pretty good price in Chicago.

Haven't stayed at the Westin, but enjoyed the Omni. Great location, nice rooms. Sign up with Omni Hotels and they'll customize pillows, beddings, etc, and serve coffee and juice to your room in the morning. The only weird thing about the omni is that the lobby is on the 2nd or 3rd floor.

Thanks for all your replies...this is a girls trip and for the first time we are taking my 7-year-old daughter. We decided on the Omni because of the suite thing and because they were sooooooo helpful in accomodating our needs. The price was a little higher but the comparison in the helpfulness of the reservationists seemed to indicate the Omni was a first-class operation. Thanks!
