new york city hotel

I need help finding a NYC hotel for May 10-12th. We can spend up to 350ish a night, but really would like to be under 300.
We have never been there- it is just me and hubby both 40.
We must have clean, safe, and modern.
We want to be able to walk to Times Square, Rockefeller Center, etc..
Yes, we want touristy, not stuffy, but not Motel 6ish either.
Any ideas?

TONS on this board. Have you spent any time reading suggestions and Fodorites' favorites? Just type some key word in the search box above and read away.

Based on what you say, The Muse comes to mind.

Go to some of the websites for hotels, like Expedia.com and hotels.com for suggestions on LOTS of hotels. Often the listing with give you lots of info on the hotel and the distance to sites.

We litterally have hundreds of hotels in the city. This should give you a place to start.

I always recommend the Michelangelo, b/c it's the only hotel I stay in NYC. But the rates may be higher in May...still, it's in the ideal location for you, and it's a lovely hotel.

I just did some checking at bedandbreakfast.com for lodging for an upcoming trip to Manhattan and found lots of options much less than $350. Looks like the way to go for us! Only trick is you'll have to find a garage for your car if you drive in to city.

If you are driving into Manhattan, the only hotel in town with free parking that I know of is the Travel Inn on W 42nd St. It is a nicer budget hotel not far from Times Square. www.travelinn.com

Sorry, I gave you an outdated website for the Travel Inn. The correct site is www.thetravelinnhotel.com and it's part of www.newyorkhotels.com
