The area of 56th and Broadway is very safe--
One other hotel to try is the SALISBURY on W.57th between 6th and 7th--IDEAL location-across from HardRock Cafe-2 blk to Central Pk,2 blk to 5th Ave and in the heart of some fabulous restaurants....easy walk to Broadway theaters also

The hotel is excellently located, great area, very convenient. I don't know if you have looked at the hotel's website, but check out: http://www.davincihotel.com/about.htm
