New River Gorge Information Needed, Help Me Decide
My husband and I want to spend a few days near the New River Gorge West Virginia area. Don't know too much about the area, except that the bridge looks amazing and we enjoy the outdoors. We need suggestions as to where to stay- what motel/hotels are nice, lodges, state parks, cabins, etc. Maybe we'd take a "deluxe" accomodation since it's during the week and the prices may be better. We enjoy the outdoors, but I can't do too much walking right now because of a back problem. This is a "presurgery trip" for us. Thanks for any information you can provide.

I truly know little about 'deluxe' places to stay in that area. I'd probably start w/vrbo.com & see if I could find a cabin, or the parks usually have serviceable cabins, although a bit 'spartan'. These may also help - www.nps.gov/neri, www.newriverwv.com, www.newrivergorgecvb.com Not sure when you are going to be there, but they also have a 'Bridge Day' each year I believe. Enjoy your trip.

There are a few B&Bs in the area, if you might be interested in that kind of option. The Guest House on Courthouse Square (http://www.guesthousewv.com) is in Hinton, WV and the Historic Morris Harvey House (http://www.morrisharveyhouse.com/) in Fayetteville, WV are both near the New River Gorge and are members of the WV State B&B association. The Ponderosa Lodge (http://www.theponderosalodge.com) in Lookout, WV, is a more rustic choice in the woods. You can also check the state association website,www.wvbnbs.com, in the New River/Greenbrier Valley region, for other B&Bs located in the general area. It is a very beautiful part of the state.

The area is Fayetteville, WV.
Here are some websites:

The closest deluxe place would probably be Glade Springs
in Beckley http://www.gladesprings.com/
Also in Beckley is http://www.beckleymine.com/
Do NOT miss this quirky little place:

I hear a lot of good things about Hawk's Nest but don't think the rooms (or any in the greater area) are anything to rave about.
Restaurants to check out in Fayetteville:
