When my wife was a little girl growing up in Brooklyn in the mid-1930s and into the 1940s she lived with her parents in her mother's parents house. The maternal grandparents both came from Finland and were Swedish-speaking. My wife recalls that they used to visit a place near Kingston which was a Finnish holiday camp called Lommila or Lomila. In fact, sometime in the late 1970s or early-mid 1980s we actually found it and visited there.

Unfortunately all of my efforts (using Google) to identify where it was and what has happened to it have failed. Does any one of you reading this recall it or anything about it which might help me to learn more about it?

The camp in the link is too young, at least under this ownership. Just wondering if it was previously owned and still had northern European association.

There is a hamlet called Lomala (which means something like "vacation place" in Finnish) in Hopewell Junction (part of East Fishkill). The Lomala Civic Association was/is based there. Maybe that was/is it?

The Civic Association gave some property and buildings to the town a few years ago for use as a park.
