NEED UPSCALE RESTAURANT IN HOUSTON ON A SUNDAY NIGHT!

I just found out that I will be staying in Houston at the Omni this Sunday night. Normally I love to dine at La Reserve in the hotel (service is the best in the city I think), or at Cafe Annie but both are closed on Sunday night. I have looked around and several others like Americas, Tony's and Post Oak Grill are closed as well. Help me out Fodorites! You have never let me down in the past. What do you suggest? I am game for pretty much anything except a steakhouse I think. Would like to stay in the Montrose/Galleria area but could go elsewhere if needed. Maybe the restaurant in the Four Seasons downtown?? Any help is MUCH appreciated!

Boy, talk about your basic embarrassment of riches! There are so many good places from which to choose... to start,
Mark's, 1658 Westheimer
Ruggles, 903 W'heimer
May not be upscale enough for you, but both have reliably good food.
Ask the concierge. If you are deadset against a steakhouse you limit your options- consider Fogo da Chao on W'heimer west of Galleria. Have you checked out chowhound?

I just remembered Mark's but have never dined there. Have heard really wonderful things about it. We ate at Ruggle's the last time we were in Houston and was hoping for something different. Would you prefer Mark's over Ruggles? A steakhouse is not totally out but not our first choice. Thanks for the advice!

I would go for Mark's over Ruggles - nicer ambience. There are also other places that have opened since I moved out of Houston, so do check with the concierge and/or online.

I thought Churrasco's on Westheimer was pretty good.

Have you considered Brennan's? What about Melting Pot (a fondue place - moderately upscale and lots of fun...)

On Sunday you should try VIZIO! it's a very nice place with a great chef called Tommaso.
Westheimer 4304

Please try de Risotto the best in town!

Good Luck!

Hello:
I was in Houston this past Sunday through Tuesday and I want to share my dining experiences...
First to answer the topics question:
Aries was the sunday night upscale (?) restaurant i had picked (i didn't make it)
Where i did go and enjoyed was:
Ruggles 101 on 900's Westheimer. sunday brunch but they are also open for dinner! We all like Ruggles! from salad, chicken, salmon, & dessert = good! Dinner @ California Pizza Kitchen was to our dislike in Houston, I really liked it in Las Vegas, but Houston the service was great, the food = not good.
Monday lunch = Maggiano's sucks IMO! I had plans for Ousies but they had to be changed. Then for dinner we went to Marks also on Westheimer. Its wonderful!!! I really really recomend it.
Tueday we had plans for Cafe Annie, i have read great reviews but do to circumstaces, we did not make it, and we were recommended Barnaby's Cafe off Westheimer on Sheperd. Its open on continous hours so no probs there. The salad was delish, we had various chicken plates very good - also the sandwiches. It also looked like the hamburgers were really popular. For dessert we ordered a cheesecake but that was no good. We should have gotte the brownie or choc cake a la mode, that was their thing there. For dinner we just picked up some salads and bread @ Whole Foods. End of trip! And still got new places for next time.

Linda,

Next time you're in Houston, try Benjy's for Sunday brunch. It's wonderful.
