Need NYC help. Need to get from city out to Millford, NJ.

Will be in NYC on a Thursday in Oct. Will need to get to Millford, NJ by around 5:00. Any commuters out there that can tell me the best way to get from the city out to Millford? Train, bus, Uber, taxi? If train, do you need to get tickets in advance? Thanks for any tips you can give me!

I can't find any NJ transit to Milford NJ - neither bus nor train. They do show 3 or 4 stations nearby (10 or more miles away). Obviously you are going there for a specific reason so I would contact the company or people you are visiting to determine which would be the most convenient and then how to get a taxi from there to Milford - unless you are willing to rent a car and drive. Expect the trip to take about 2 hours.

Uber or car service would be VERY expensive since Milford is far from Manhattan (about 75 mile). And are you sure you mean Milford and not New Milford (20 miles) or West Milford (45 miles) - which are much closer? NYC taxis likely would not be willing to go there - since the trip is so long and they would have to charge you double the fare since they have to come back empty.

Oh my goodness - I was confused for a minute and then I double checked my address and it's MILBURN, Not Millford. Sorry! Going to the Paper Mill Playhouse where my nephew is starring in a new show (hopefully moving on to Broadway after the first of the year). I know it's not too terribly far from the Newark airport - so thinking we could probably find some kind of transit there from Midtown and then cab to the theatre. Any tips would be appreciated!!

It's Millburn with two Ls. It looks like a 53-minute train ride from NY Penn Station.

It's a bit hard to find on the site, but you'll find directions on getting to the theater from Manhattan here: http://papermill.org/about-us/audien...our-visit.html.

A lot of people go to see Paper Mill Playhouse shows from NYC.

From NY Penn Station (31st-34th Sts between 7th & 8th Avenues) take NJ Transit.

Take a NJT "Mid Direct" Dover train to the Millburn station.

(Note: there are 2 "Mid Direct" trains listed on the station departure boards - make sure you look for the one with the destination is Dover.)

Morris & Essex Lines Timetable (look for the letters 'MD" on the timetable for "Mid Direct" trains):
http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/rail/r0040.pdf

The trip takes about 45 minutes.

The fare is $8.00 one way (Round trip is simply 2 one-way tickets of $16.00). Reduced fare (62 and up) $3.50 one way.
Make sure you buy the tickets before you board as there is a $5.00 surcharge for tickets purchased on the train.

And the station is a short walk from the Playhouse. Very easy. Dinner first, the Carriage House AT the Playhouse is really very good, and of course then you're right there.
